sunday funday

August 11th, 2011

Last Sunday the weather man was wrong once again, and thank goodness he was. Instead of gray skies and raindrops, Sunday was filled with temps in the 30′s and bright hot sunshine!

Sunday funday was filled with four generations of Mueller/Kennedy women basking in the sun and dancing in the pool.

Let’s hope the remainder of summer is filled with more days like this.

surprise shoot : happy father’s day

August 2nd, 2011

Meet Jessica, Jeremy and Oliver, a hip family of three.

Jess and Oliver wanted to surprise Jeremy with a family photo shoot for father’s day, so we schemed a little and made it happen. It was surprisingly hot on father’s day this year so we stayed inside to keep cool. I had a blast photographing these guys, totally fun, totally laid back and obviously very cool, I mean what 18 month wears skinny jeans and Chuck Taylor’s.

We kept Oliver entertained and in good spirits with blueberries and crackers and he kept us laughing with his dance moves and smiles.

Jess, Jer and O, you guys rock!

thanks for letting me hang with y’all.

jolie papeterie – couture wedding invitations

May 26th, 2011

Back in April I had the pleasure of meeting Nicola and Stephane of Jolie Papeterie, a Toronto based boutique specializing in couture invitations.  It was a cold gray morning and the rain would not let up, but that didn’t deter this creative duo from heading out to share a cuppa joe with a complete stranger.

We sat near the window gaining warmth through our lattes and chatted like old friends about the wedding business. It was so fun to connect with another wedding industry professional; Nicola and Stephane were amazingly open and shared many useful tips with me.

If you are in the market for exceptional wedding invitations, place cards, thanks you cards etc., you need to check out Jolie Papeterie. Nicola and Stephane have a fantastic portfolio featuring bold and unique designs and they are always up for working with you to create a custom design that perfectly reflects your style.

With their second baby due to arrive mid June, Nicola and Stephane will be taking a much needed hiatus until July 15th. But don’t let that stop you from contacting them; they’re happy to hear from you at any time. But if you find yourself loving what you see, I’d advise you to get your orders in early as this dynamic duo books up fast! At Jolie Papeterie couture isn’t synonymous with expensive. Ultra chic designs are delivered at affordable price points, now that’s exciting!

You can get in touch with Jolie Papeterie by going to www.joliepapeterie.com and clicking their Contact page. You can send in an email, give Nicola a call at (905-220-0979), or request a quote using the “request a quote” page on their website. Whichever method you prefer, you’ll be guaranteed, a quick response from Nicola or Stephane and friendly and efficient customer service throughout the process.

Go on and visit them, you’ll be happy you did.

it’s a girl!

May 4th, 2011

Baby Peyton arrived on schedule at the end of February and she’s  simply adorable. See for yourself.

A very special thank you goes out to my extraordinary assistant (Nancy) whom without this shoot would not have been successful.

miami to serbia with love

March 9th, 2011

She calls him “cookie” and he calls her babe, I call them perfectly in love.

Margaret and I rowed together in college (Go Hoos!) and rowing is what brought Margaret and Boban together, they worked along side one another as rowing coaches for the University of Miami. They have both moved on and they’ve done so together creating an adorable bungalow feel in their Miami Beach condo. Last weekend I escaped the cold Canadian winter and headed south for a little R&R with the hubs. Luckily we were able to pack a lot into one trip, we caught up with college friends, went to Hogwarts (and Disney), spent time with family, and to top it off, I had the pleasure of hanging out with Margaret and Boban and snapping a few engagement photos of the awesome duo.

I had full intentions of having the pair ride around on Margaret’s Vespa for the shoot, but sadly time ran short. Next time, for sure. Margaret and Boban were super easy to photograph, I think it had to do with all the laughter that came from the impromptu salsa dancing and the attempt at the Dirty Dancing lift. Regardless, we had a blast and wrapped up the day with some authentic Cuban food, so good.

In September Margaret and Boban will say their I Do’s across the Atlantic, in a town in Serbia that Cookie calls home. With any luck I’ll be there to witness the circle dancing and Serbian customs first hand.

Congratulations!

scenes from my weekend: great canadian ice fishing adventure

February 13th, 2011

When in Rome right? Right.

This past weekend we checked another “must do while living in Canada” off of or list, we went ice fishing. I must admit, this wasn’t my idea, in fact I was skeptical that I would enjoy it. My dear Caribbean born husband had the idea, and my dear friend Carolyn set the wheels in motion. I am happy to report three things: 1. the hut was VERY warm (thank goodness), 2. I had a blast, mostly due to the great company and 3. I caught the biggest fish of the day (this was no easy feat).

We traveled an hour and half north of Toronto to Floyd Hales Fish Huts where we boarded our number 7 Bombardier and ventured 3 miles out onto Lake Simcoe. The weather was cold, the hut was warm, and the snowmobiles were plenty, we were far from alone. The day started out slow for me, with Trey and Carolyn alternating catches, and then, just when I was about to give up, in good fishing etiquette a fish tugged on my line. And just like that, I was back in the game.

The day flew by. When guys from Floyd Hales dropped us off and said they’d be back at 4pm to get us, I looked at my watch which read 10:30 and instantly became a little nervous. I was sure boredom would set in by 11:15, thankfully I was wrong, and 4 o’clock came far too quickly.

A HUGE thank you to Carolyn our fishing guru and trip organizer. Without her our Canadian ice fishing experience wouldn’t have been complete.

baby b’s first snow day

February 7th, 2011

Chris and Jocelyn are expecting their first baby later this month, yay! As a matter of fact baby Bartram is due to make his/her appearance on February 27, I can hardly wait.

Jocelyn, Chris, baby B and I bundled up and headed out into the snow for a a bit of belly fun. Despite the two feet of snow the temperature was surprising mild (good for all of us), so we were able to linger in the snow and play around. Jocelyn was a trooper, at 8 months pregnant she ran, jumped, kicked and laid in the snow without blinking an eye. My favorite shot is Jocelyn jumping, check her out, she’s got air!

Thanks got Jo and Chris, I had a blast hanging out with you guys and documenting the beginning of your new adventure. Oh and thanks for pulling me out of the unmarked fish pond, that was just a minor set back!

Enjoy,

xoxo

scenes from my weekend : st. lawrence market

February 6th, 2011

Being new to a city is fun, you can be a tourist in your own backyard.

Since we’ve only been living in Toronto since October we’ve decided to start venturing out and crossing things off our to-do list. First up, St. Lawrence Market. St.Lawrence Market is a year-round indoor market that is bursting at the seams with delicious food, fresh cheese, organic meats and veggies, and a whole lot of fresh seafood. It’s impossible to escape the smell of warm freshly baked bread and pastries, they are everywhere.

We headed down to the market this past Saturday and spent about two hours browsing and eating our way through it, not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning. My favorite thing that I ate this weekend was a  peameal bacon sandwich on a fresh baked roll, no condiments necessary, it’s that’s good. We also sampled a variety of pastries, lobster bisque and some amazing Christmas cheddar.

We wrapped up our Saturday night with homemade ravioli from the market, fresh pasta just might be my new vice.

If St.Lawrence Market is on your to-do list, do it on an empty stomach, you’ll be glad you did.

a bicycle built for two…. and a half

November 25th, 2010

I think Canada knows I’ve just moved back and is easing me in slowly. I couldn’t have asked for a better November, the weather has been great, and by great I mean I haven’t seen snow yet and the temperatures have been consistently above zero. I’m not naive though, I know what’s coming, but for now I’m enjoying every minute of sunshine and mild temps.

Making the most out of the “good weather” I headed out to do a family portrait session with the Flood family. After much debate, we decided to stay close to home and headed to Port Burwell, Ontario where we met up with a sweet bicycle built for two, lots of leaves, and a pier. It’s always tricky when children are involved in a shoot  because you just never know what you’re gonna get. I have to say that Little Miss Jenny Bean was a rock star and stole the show for the most part, but not without a few hiccups here and there!

It might seem cruel, but I think these “hiccups” translated well and even though Miss Jenny is having a meltdown, I just love the honestly in these images. Life is real, why not capture what’s real and celebrate it.

One of the best parts of the shoot was watching Kathy and Chris attempt to ride the bicycle together, trust me this was no easy feat. To say we laughed hard is an understatement. I have to give a big shout out to my awesome niece Olivia who acted as my “assistant” on this shoot, and who continually stood off to the side entertaining Jenny and getting her to smile. Without Olivia who knows what these pictures would have looked like!

Happy “Movember”, Christmas is one month away!!!!
